A Highly, energetic, enthusiastic and talented individual Shri Vishal modak has a special talent in the art of Indian instrument tabla. A national award winner for the year 2003 for tabla Vishal has also been recipient of many accolades and achievements like ‘young talent’ by nritya Academy ,’University blue’ by Karnataka University, ‘Karnataka vaibhav’ by rashtriya pratishthan to name a few.
This young talent who hails from a small town of Belgaum, Karnataka has travelled all throughout India to showcase his talent in tabla and performed at various places like Mumbai, Pune, Warangal, Hubli, Dharwar, Bangalore, Chennai, udupi, Mysore, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Goa etc. as a solo performer and also accompanying various eminent artists like Ustad Balekhan for sitar, shri. Nanda Kishore Mule for santoor, Sri Rajan Kulkarni for sarod, smt.Arundhati Sukthankar for sitar, Pt. Shailesh Bhagwat for shehnai, Dr. Sneha Rajurikar for vocal, Dr. Sudhanshu Kulkarni for harmonium, shri. Jagannath Dharmadhikari for sitar, Pt. Jayateerth Mevundi for vocal and so on.
Vishal Modak who was fascinated by rhythms of tabla at the tender age of five years has been blessed with many repeated gurus. he initially started from shri. Bandopant Kulkarni from Belgaum and later undertook training from Shri. Amit Bhosale (Goa), Shri. Amod Dandage (kolhapur), Shri. Nikhil Bhagat (kolhapur) ,Ustad Jamadar Khan (Gokak) and went on to become a prodigy of the great Pt. Arvind Mulgaonkar from Mumbai. Currently he is pursuing his advanced education from the from none other than the legendary artist Pt. Aditya kalyanpur who is a living legend himself.
This highly gifted individual has won many competitions all throughout his life such as national level competition at Warangal south zone youth festival, Sathyabama University, Chennai and has performed at various programs such as in Mysuru and also has represented as a director of music in diplomat model United Nations as well as participated in the ‘Grand orchestra’ in the world cultural festival hosted by art of living.
Being the versatile individual that Vishal is, he also happens to be a very loving and dedicated teacher with students all around his native town of Belgaum. His ‘Tarang Academy of Music ‘which was started by him in the year 2006 has about 200 + students who learn the magical art of tabla and other various musical instruments. He has conducted several programs and workshops for the students of Music and is an of official examiner and guide for Akhil Bhartiya gandharva exams uptil postgraduate levels.
By certification, Vishal has received his masters degree in tabla and also worked in the positions of teacher and professor for some of the esteemed organizations like KLE School of Music, Herwadkar School and Marathi teachers training college in India.
A philanthropist by nature he also works as vice chairman for Dr. Prakash Raykar foundation of music which works for the awareness and betterment of Indian classical music.
